Hello family & friends!
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” -Acts 1:8
So much to write about this trip. It was a blessing to see the youngsters that I traveled with changed by this trip. The Lord reminded us all that we are one body and when one part of the body is hurting we all hurt. The Cuban church has great needs and the Lord used us to encourage them and also to build relationships. Life is tough in Cuba, but we also know that the Lord is in control and when freedom comes to Cuba, it is going to be exciting to see what the Cuban church is going to do once it’s unleashed.
The trip was divided in two parts. First part was in Camajuani where we mainly visited the surrounding missions, church plants, and home churches. We visited the brethren in their homes to pray and share the Word with them. The second part of the trip was in Canan, Cuba for the annual Pastors conference. Our group served in the dining room serving and waiting on tables and that blessed our Cuban family. I also shared in two workshops on Children’s Ministry and gave the leaders some practical ideas they could implement to bless the kids. It was also a blessing to spend time with my brothers from CC Downey, very encouraging to me.
Returning from Cuba, we prepared for another trip to Veracruz. It was a 13-hour drive along the gulf coast from Mérida to Veracruz, then another 2 hrs. to Acatlán. We first visited Calvary Chapel Veracruz where I shared on Friday night prayer service, had a great time of worship & fellowship. At CC Veracruz we also made some plumbing repairs to the building and did a little painting. We also visited the mission at Acatlán, a small pueblo in the mountains of Veracruz (population 3,000). It is one of the least evangelized communities in Mexico with approx. six believers. The local Catholic priest threatened to not hold the burial ritual and “let them die like dogs on the street”, if they didn’t stop going to the home Bible study. This threat did scare a couple of them away. The purpose of the trip was to visit these believers, to pray with them and encourage them in their walk with the Lord.
Another purpose was to scout the town so we can plan the summer trip. In July, Lord willing, we will be returning to Acatlán to hold a couple of summer school courses. CCBC Mérida plans to take 16 students to take a Missions class and do some practical ministry. We’re planning to do street evangelism, visiting the local believers and helping in various ways, and also hold two outreach events; one for children and one for young adults.
Calvary Chapel Bible College Mérida
It is exciting to be part of this ministry and see the Lord supplying in the building of the new campus. There has been much progress, but still much more to go. This month some men from CC Mérida joined the project to pour the concrete floor for two of the classrooms. In March, we were also blessed by the short-term mission team from CC Boca Raton. The team did an awesome job painting to finish off the two classrooms. I have been blessed to see the progress and to see how the Lord is using so many different groups to get this campus going. At the end of the month, I will be taking the high school students from Calvary Prepa to work on the property. We will be ready to work some more… glory to God! We are praying that others will come alongside us to work and be blessed. If you are gifted in the construction field or just have a heart to work hard for the Lord, then we invite you to come on down and also keep this project in prayer.
We are filled with joy and still rejoicing for the baby the Lord has blessed us with. At the end of March, baby will be going on nearly 5 months. Sylvia and I both love seeing Matthew and Victoria talking into the belly to say hello to the baby. Sylvia is doing well, but she is getting much more tired, especially that the heat is getting intense over here.
We are thankful for everyone of you that continue to pray for us, encourage us, and support us.
Thank you for following us and reading this ministry update.
