2014 January Newsletter

Hello friends & family!

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” -Acts 1:8

January was a busy and awesome month. We want to first of all give God all the glory for what He’s done and will continue to do here in Mexico. The month flew, but it was amazing.

Baby News!!!
First is the blessing of a new baby. We found out in the midst of our immigration problems flying back to the states. While we wondered if we would be able to travel at all, we heard the Lord say to us, don’t worry about these minor problems, I’m giving you another baby. All our worries were gone immediately and Sylvia and I were filled with joy. So many questions about what it’s going to be like to have a baby here in Mexico, but still filled with joy for the blessing we received and for the great plans God has for our family. The fist part of January was rough on Sylvia. Bad morning sickness, but now as I write this she’s doing better. Sylvia gets extremely tired, so we ask for your prayers. Our first doctor visit here in Mexico was not good. Dr. was not very friendly and he didn’t order the blood tests that are required in the first trimester of a pregnancy, so we are searching for a new Dr. and trusting the Lord will help us find a good doc asap. Matthew and Victoria are excited to meet their baby brother or sister. Victoria has gotten more clingy to mommy since the pregnancy began, so we also ask for prayer for Victoria.

2014 Missions Conference
The Lord gave us rest and encouraged us for one week in Murrieta, CA. We expected the Lord to speak to us and He did! It was really an awesome experience to worship the Lord in a room full of missionaries, brothers & sisters with the same heart to reach the lost. The Lord introduced us to people, we prayed and shared our hearts. Sylvia and I both finished the conference saying, “I’m ready to go back to Merida.” We were recharged and ready to go back to serve the Lord.

Hocaba Outreach
Upon returning from the Missions Conference, Sylvia and the kids headed back to school, and I lead a small team from Calvary Prepa (High School) to join the High School mission team from CCA Ft. Lauderdale. In the past, the team from Florida visited different many of the missions in different towns and villages, but this year they divided up into smaller teams and spent the entire week in one place. Our group served in Hocaba, Yucatan. Hocaba is a small Mayan village about 90 minutes east of Merida. The outreach consisted of coming along side Calvary Chapel Hocaba and support Pastor Demetrio. The Florida students did an outstanding job with VBS, skits, crafts and games. Praise the Lord, several children received Christ as their Lord & Savior. My students assisted primarily in translating. Together we had a fun time playing with the kids and sharing God’s love with them. In the town center, we invited people to the church events. Later in the week, people were more open to talk after seeing us there for so many days. I saw the benefit of investing more time in one location during short term trips. I believe we gained more trust and also started many new personal relationships as the people saw the love of Christ.

Calvary Chapel Bible College Merida
In January we had registration and kicked off the 2014 Spring Semester on January 27th. It’s always an exciting time talking and encouraging students, especially seeing their desire to study God’s word. This semester we added a new teacher, so we want to thank you for your prayers. I’m teaching the book of Acts and it is such a blessing to share with the students. God uses great evangelists and He uses ordinary Christians to get His message out to the world. That encourages us, because He gifts us and He gives us power by His Holy Spirit to be witnesses of Christ. Jesus lives and He continues to work through His church to fulfill His plan to bless the nations. That motivates me big time and I’m excited to teach this powerful book of the Bible.

Cuba
The Lord has opened the door for me to go to Cuba for the annual Pastor’s Conference. I will be leading a small group to join up with another team from CC Merida and CC Downey and will be teaching a Children’s Ministry workshop. We fly out on February 6th and I ask for your prayers, for safety, for a smooth entrance going through Cuban customs, for wisdom in leading the group, and for the Holy Spirit to lead me in teaching the workshop.

Ministry Opportunities
The Lord is opening a door for ministry in Acatlan, Veracruz, Mexico. Acatlan is a small town in the mountains of Veracruz. There is a small group of believers and our plan is to make regular visits to teach the Word, pray, encourage, and equip them for the good works God has for them, since there is not a Bible teaching church near them. We are praying to take a small team from the Bible College students to serve and minister in Acatlan this summer. I will be traveling with Pastor Sam in February to visit and then start to plan for the summer trip.

We are thankful for everyone of you that continue to pray for us, encourage us, and support us.

Thank you for following us and reading this ministry update.

In Christ,

The Gamez Family
